Privacy Policy
Last updated 24 October 2026
Before has no accounts and never asks for your name, email address or phone number. This page explains what happens to the little information it does handle.
Searching for an address
What you type in the search box is sent to Google Maps to find matching places. Google handles it under the Google Privacy Policy.
Using your current location
If you tap “Use my current location”, your phone shares its GPS position with Before. It is sent to Google Maps to find the street, or to Photon, a service run by Komoot, if Google can't answer. Before doesn't keep it.
Checking a property
The property's state and LGA are sent to OpenWatch for security reports. In Lagos, its location is also sent to Lagos Flood Check for the flood model.
Network tests
The speed test runs between your phone and Cloudflare. Before uses your connection's IP address to tell which network you're on, then discards it. When you run a test at a property, Before saves your network or provider, the download and upload speeds, latency and jitter, the state and LGA, and the location rounded to an area of about 500 m. It never saves your IP address, your device or your exact location, and results only appear once 5 or more people have tested an area.
Visits and abuse protection
Page visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or identify you. To stop abuse, the server keeps IP addresses in memory for a few minutes to limit how often one connection can search or save tests. Before's host, Cloudflare, keeps short-lived server logs. Before also counts how many checks are started each day, and in which LGA, as plain numbers with nothing about you or the exact property.
On your phone
Before keeps a copy of the app on your phone so it opens offline, and remembers if you closed the “Add to home screen” prompt. Nothing else is stored there.
